Tuesday, November 22nd

Hi all.  We are in week four of our class and I am learning about companies that use force ranking, which is a way to determine who the top, middle and bottom performers are in a company.  Employee evaluations are necessary and part of  best practices and those that are not performing should be identified and counseled and if there in little or no improvement in performance, let go. However, ranking people against each other and  using this strategy to manipulate and eliminate the selected bottom 10% of performers, is just wrong.  As a manager, I could have played favorites and manipulated my figures, but I didn't.  What I really disliked from my last company was the political maneuvering that took place and the lies and manipulation. If my manager didn't like someone, they were doomed at that company. If I worked in HR for a company that did force ranking, I would either support it or not.  If I didn't, what would I do? Could I work for a company that goes against my values?
